Description of problem:
youtube no workee - fedora 9 not usable for wife
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
swfdec.x86_64 0.6.2-1.fc9
swfdec-gtk.x86_64 0.6.2-1.fc9
swfdec-mozilla.x86_64 0.6.0-1.fc9
How reproducible:
I didn't try a lot of videos, but I couldn't find a single one that actually
worked. And what's the internet without the rick-roll?
Some just show a light gray background, some give the play buttons etc, but show
only a black screen even when the red ball at the bottom moves along..
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install current Fedora 9
2. Rick-roll!
3. No profit!
Actual results:
Some videos just show a light gray background, some give the play buttons etc,
but in the latter case show only a black screen even when the red ball at the
bottom seems to moves along..
Expected results:
Rick Astley in all his glory! People have reported that youtube videos are
supposed to work with swfdec, so I presume they have worked at some point and
have been broken recently.
Just to test that this isn't just a anti-rick-roll security feature, I also
tested some other videos, but let's face it - we do need Rick for the "Full
Internet Experience".
Additional info:
This is "high" priority because the wife will kill me if she doesn't have her
videos. And the adobe player won't install on current rawhide due to some
library issues.

Epilogue
This marks my 261st blog entry as a Novell employee. It shall also mark my last.
An operose decision, I resigned as Chief Architect of our Linux Desktop endeavor, effective today.
In the house that Ximian built, we dreamt and saw to fruition the world's finest Linux desktop, Linux's first desktop commercial success. Seated at the table aside some of the industry's sharpest hackers, we challenged ourselves not with the goal of building another Linux desktop, but with the aim of engineering a more perfect desktop—Linux or otherwise. Unsatisfied with simply cheaper, we went for broke: better and faster, too. SLED's éclat is ours.
Leaving is never easy. But here and now the timing is right and so, after three and a half years, here's to what's next.
My work email won't forward, so hit me @rlove.org.

Dear both;
Peter

My Personal Ad
I'm a single atheist white man, 52, reputedly intelligent, with unusual interests in politics, science, music and dance.
I'd like to meet a woman with varied interests, curious about the world, comfortable expressing her likes and dislikes (I hate struggling to guess), delighting in her ability to fascinate a man and in being loved tenderly, who values joy, truth, beauty and justice more than "success"--so we can share bouts of intense, passionately kind awareness of each other, alternating with tolerant warmth while we're absorbed in other aspects of life.
My 22-year-old child, the Free Software Movement, occupies most of my life, leaving no room for more children, but I still have room to love a sweetheart. I spend a lot of my time traveling to give speeches, often to Europe, Asia and Latin America; it would be nice if you were free to travel with me some of the time.
If you are interested, write to rms at stallman dot org and we'll see where it leads.

* 呈示部:是赋格曲的开始部分,有一个主题和一个对应的答题,互相对题伴随着依次在各声部进行陈述;
* 间插段:在主题展开以前插入的部分段落;
* 中间部:对呈示部的主题以各种变形方式展开,进一部地丰富所要表达的内容;
* 再现部和尾声:结束部分。

像是:bammer, bonic, brown, bud, buddha, cannabis, cheeba, chronic, dank, doubage, ganja, grass, green, groove weed, hash, herb, home-grown, ill, Indo, iszm, Lebanon, Mary Jane, maui, method, pot, sess, shake, shit, skunk, stress, tabacci, Thai, tical, wacky, and weed.
MLK - Martin Luther King,
Malcolm {Malcolm X} -
Tony Montana -
此外,如out of改成了outta,kind of改成了kinda,sort of改成了sorta,已成一新英文文法。
此外,如Digital Underground的歌曲Wussup with The LUV,即是What's up with The Love的实体,字体虽改变,但发音仍相同。
I don't give a ****,表示I don't care之意;**** about/around则表示不信任某人或某事;**** off同get out滚蛋之意;至于Don't **** sb up,则是Let me alone,别烦我的意思;而**** sth up则有把事搞砸之意。 而Fuck有一用法则同于究竟(on earth)或是咒骂人的词组(the hell),即“the ****”,为强调之用法,如What the **** you gonna do?或How the Fuck sho'I fly?
如shit! what's up, ya?或是骂人的用词you lil (little) son of bitch shit! 如What Da shit! Yo!My Big Shit!
A表示最好的,B则为差的,如B-Side即指最劣的事物,但A plus(A+)则是最优的代表。 N则为And的缩写,R则为ARE的缩写,U为You的缩写。此外,曾以消灭美国黑人,保障白人优越的白人强势团体三K党KKK(Ku Klux Klan)或是W.A.S.P。 C.R.E.A.M(Cash, Rules,Everything, Around,Me)中,歌名开宗明义的说到希望,现金能滚滚而来的心愿,歌中开始说到,Raekwon The Chef(Wu-Tang Clan成员之一)为了金钱,所以在没有母亲照顾下,来到了Wu-Tang的发迹地,NewYork的Shaolinland,16岁就接触到毒品,并用枪枝在街头讨生活,用这些东西获得他的everything,当然也包含了Cash公司。
其它俗字如nickle(五分镍币),如dough,blunt(原意是"钝的"意思,但被假借成"金饰"之意),ducat(原指中世纪欧洲所用的金/银饰,现在口语中则指硬币或入场券之意),hoot(原指纽西兰的钱,也被黑人假借了,很特别),dime,,buck(可指男性黑人,更可指一元美元),钱的代号真不少呢!
4.男女性交易:皮条客以pimp为代号(如Too Short的第七张专辑即取名“Shorty The Pimp”),妓女则以whore, hoe, hook stank ho等为代称,而抢手的的对象也可用hot stuff来称,用creep up on sb's ass来代表交易中。
一般对警察的称呼有Cop(因警棍Capper写缩而来),pig、 po(police的缩写)、Crook。
如deep-six,light sb up, turn to the grave, go out等词组,都是“去死”之意,而crpress hill及six deep feet(指棺材埋在离地面六呎之下)都是坟墓之意,而动词多用bang及pump则是和被枪击致命有关。
8.其它称呼:如juice一字,可当果汁解,但当动词则有"压榨"之意,如Ice Cube即在歌词中说到“You can't juice me out,kus I'm Ice Cube”,有反抗意味,但如果说一个女人是juice,则表示此女必为"尤物",但juice却有一正面意义的解释,即尊重(respect)之意,当黑人说到Can you give me mo'juice时,他不光是要果汁,更要求的是尊重。

Frequently Asked Questions about udev
Q: What's this udev thing, and what is it trying to do?
A: Read the OLS 2003 paper about udev, available in the docs/ directory,
and at:
There is also a udev presentation given at OLS 2003 available at:
Q: How is udev related to devfs?
A: udev works entirely in userspace, using /sbin/hotplug calls that the
kernel makes whenever a device is added or removed from the kernel. All
naming policy, and permission control is done in userspace. devfs
operated from within the kernel.
Q: Why was devfs marked OBSOLETE if udev is not finished yet?
A: To quote Al Viro (Linux VFS kernel maintainer):
- it was determined that the same thing could be done in userspace
- devfs had been shoved into the tree in hope that its quality will
catch up
- devfs was found to have fixable and unfixable bugs
- the former had stayed around for many months with maintainer
claiming that everything works fine
- the latter had stayed, period.
- the devfs maintainer/author disappeared and stoped maintaining
the code.
Q: But udev will not automatically load a driver if a /dev node is opened
when it is not present like devfs will do.
A: If you really require this functionality, then use devfs. It is still
present in the kernel.
Q: But wait, I really want udev to automatically load drivers when they
are not present but the device node is opened. It's the only reason I
like using devfs. Please make udev do this.
A: No. udev is for managing /dev, not loading kernel drivers.
Q: Oh come on, pretty please. It can't be that hard to do.
A: Such a functionality isn't needed on a properly configured system. All
devices present on the system should generate hotplug events, loading
the appropriate driver, and udev will notice and create the
appropriate device node. If you don't want to keep all drivers for your
hardware in memory, then use something else to manage your modules
(scripts, modules.conf, etc.) This is not a task for udev.
Q: But I love that feature of devfs, please?
A: The devfs approach caused a lot of spurious modprobe attempts as
programs probed to see if devices were present or not. Every probe
attempt created a process to run modprobe, almost all of which were
spurious.
Q: I really like the devfs naming scheme, will udev do that?
A: Yes, udev can create /dev nodes using the devfs naming policy. A
configuration file needs to be created to map the kernel default names
to the devfs names. See the initial udev.rules.devfs file in the udev
release. It is the start of such a configuration file. If there are
any things missing, please let the udev authors know.
Q: What kinds of devices does udev create nodes for?
A: All devices that are shown in sysfs will work with udev. If more
support is added for devices to the kernel, udev will automatically
start working for them. All block devices are currently supported, and
almost all major char devices are supported. Kernel developers are
working on adding support for all char devices at this time. See the
linux-kernel mailing list for patches and status of these patches.
Q: Will udev remove the limit on the number of anonymous devices?
A: udev is entirely in userspace. If the kernel supports a greater number
of anonymous devices, udev will support it.
Q: Will udev support symlinks?
A: Yes, It now does. Multiple symlinks per device node too.
Q: How will udev support changes to device permissions?
A: On shutdown, udev will save the state of existing device permissions to
its database, and then used the on the next boot time.
Q: How will udev handle the /dev filesystem?
A: /dev can be a ramfs, or a backing filesystem. udev does not care what
kind of filesystem it runs on.
Q: How will udev handle devices found before init runs?
A: udev will be placed in initramfs and run for every device that is found.
Work to get this implemented is still underway.
Q: Can I use udev to automount a USB device when I connect it?
A: Technically, yes, but udev is not intended for this. Projects that do
automount hotplugged storage devices are:
* Usb-mount http://users.actrix.co.nz/michael/usbmount.html
* devlabel http://linux.dell.com/projects.shtml#devlabel
Alternatively, it is easy to add the following to fstab:
/udev/pendrive /pendrive vfat user,noauto 0 0
This means that users can access the device with:
$ mount /pendrive
And don't have to be root but will get full permissions on /pendrive.
This works even without udev if /udev/pendrive is replaced by /dev/sda1
Q: I have other questions about udev, where do I ask them?
A: The linux-hotplug-devel mailing list is the proper place for it. The
address for it is linux-hotplug-devel@lists.sourceforge.net
Information on joining can be found at

This is kinda bloggish, because it's basically a transcription of an
IRC monologue. My apologies if it's hard to follow... Nonetheless,
I'm interested in how other developers feel on the topics I bring up
below.
There have been some really interesting points brought up recently
about "where is Gentoo going?" I have been wondering that myself.
Some people seem to think that Gentoo has the potential to be an
enterprise player. I have not responded directly to those people, but
I wonder if they know what they mean. I have worked in the enterprise
UNIX market for 6 years. My code is running in places like NASA
mission control, 9-1-1 call centers, and most of the telephone
carriers. I've produced patches on weekends to close $800m deals.
I now work in hp's Open Source and Linux Organization, mostly on RHEL
and SLES, so I have a good idea of what it takes to be an enterprise
player.
In my humble opinion, Gentoo is missing too many points to be an
enterprise Linux. We commit to a live tree. We don't have true QA,
testing or tinderbox. We don't have paid staff, alpha/beta/rc cycles.
We don't really have product lifecycles, since we don't generally
backport fixes to older versions, requiring instead for people to
update to a more recent release. We don't have, and probably will
never be able to offer, support contracts. We support as wide a range
of hardware as the upstream kernel, plus hardware that requires
external drivers; we don't have access to a great deal of the hardware
for which we provide drivers. We understand when real life gets in
the way of bug-fixing, because all our developers are volunteers.
I think that attempting to take Gentoo in the "enterprise" direction
is a mistake. I think that we are a hobbyist distribution. This
doesn't mean that we should not strive to meet some of the enterprise
goals. Those things can be important to hobbyists too. But I don't
think we should be aiming for corporate America.
I don't even understand why that goal appeals to people. Let other
distros go there! I want Gentoo to run in people's homes, in student
dorm rooms, etc. Places where people want a fun distribution that
they can tailor and work on easily.
I like the idea of Gentoo on alternative arches and in embedded
environments. Not because I want Sony to start using Gentoo on
walkmans, but purely because the idea of running Linux on a PDA is
cool. I'd like Gentoo to be a place where neat things are developed.
If RH or SuSE (or another for-profit Linux vendor) wants to take some
of those developments and use them to make a profit, that's fine with
me. We're over here having fun.
Also I find it amusing when people say that Gentoo exists for the
users. I think that is wrong. Gentoo exists for the *developers*.
It's our playground, and it's the reason we use a live tree rather
than switching to an actually sane approach. The users are cool
because they point out bugs, help solve problems on bugzilla, suggest
enhancements, provide patches, and notify us of package updates.
Sometimes they become developers. But the truth is that Gentoo sees
improvement and maintenance in the areas that appeal to the
developers. And that is why Gentoo exists for the developers first,
the users second.
Regards,
Aron

This fractal is obtained by iteratively applying the transformation z <- (z*z + r*z*c + c*c)/(z*z + s*z*c + c*c), beginning with z = c and fixing r and s as two conjugate points on the unit circle. The colors are determined by the average value of the iterates as the number of iterations approaches infinity as c is varied over the complex plane. Although the rule used to generate the image is so mathematically simple, the shape is strangely organic and even suggestive of some sort of creature possessing a large head and a barbed tail.

Nokia on Wednesday announced a trio of new phones, including one that can store up to 3,000 songs.
The N91 has an integrated 4GB hard disk and supports digital music formats including MP3, M4A, AAC and WMA, Nokia said.
Additionally, the handset comes with a stereo headset with remote control. The N91, expected to ship by the end of the year, will also feature a 2-megapixel camera, e-mail support, a Web-browser and video-sharing capabilities, the device maker said.
The phone supports WCDMA, wireless local area networking and Bluetooth, and subscribers can shop at online music stores directly from the device, the company said. Users can synchronize the device with their computers via USB 2.0 and create and manage playlists that, in turn, can be shared with others via Bluetooth, e-mail or multimedia messaging.
Another new WCDMA handset from Nokia is the N70, a smart phone featuring a 2-megapixel camera, a flash and "front camera" for video calling, stereo FM radio, a digital music player, visual radio and 3D games. The camera has a "slide and shoot" design, in which the slide automatically activates the camera.
The handset's camera has an integrated flash, 20x zoom capability and other options. Video and photo from the camera can be transferred on to a PC; organized in a slideshow or album on the camera; or printed using a USB cable, Bluetooth or reduced-size dual voltage multimedia card. The device is expected to be available in the third quarter.
Lastly, the Finnish phone maker announced the N90, which features a 2-megapixel camera with autofocus and 20x digital zoom, an integrated flash, video capture with editing functions and Carl Zeiss optics, Nokia said. Carl Zeiss optics, named for the pioneering German optician, are used for projection and illumination.
The handset's rotating camera barrel is designed to let users shoot video, as well as pictures. When the main display is unfolded and twisted, the N90 can be used to shoot video in MP4 format.
The N90 also features different options for storing, sharing and printing photos and video clips, and it supports 3G functions such as two-way video calling, video streaming and Net surfing. It is a triband phone for GSM 900/1800/1900, EDGE and WCDMA networks.

The Chinese have low regard for human life [phrusa.org] and would be willing to throw millions of soldiers to their death against the Americans in any war. The scenario would be like a human wave, and the idea is for the wave to overwhelm our forces.
These machine-gun robots is the perfect answer to a Chinese wave attack. I could imagine them being amphibious. On a fine morning like 2006 December 7, millions of them would rise up out of the ocean tide and onto the beaches of China. They would march relentless across China, killing all the Chinese soldiers.
The final destination would be Tibet.

The first PDA to have an integrated hard drive is the Zaurus SL-C3000. The Zaurus SL-C3000 is a continuation of Sharp's successful PDA line that uses the Linux operating system. The new Zaurus has 128 MB of memory but what breaks new ground for a PDA is the 1 inch 4 GB hard drive. Yes a 4 GB hard in a PDA. I have one thing to say about that its about time. Its said to have 7 hours of battery life which i think is great for having a interal hard drive. Other niceties include the ability to operate as a USB drive, SD and CF slots, irDA, and media playback of MP3, WMA, and MPEG-4 video files. Expect the new Zaurus to go on sale November 15 in Japan. You should be able get your sweaty mitts on these in the West shortly thereafter.

Sony
What's under the hood?
The Navitus is based on a 200MHz Motorola i.MX1, a popular ARM920 based application processor that powers several PDAs (including the Royal Linea) and other handheld devices that run Linux. The Navitus boots from 32MB of Flash, using the JFFS2 filesystem, cramfs, tmpfs, and ramfs.
The Navitus measures 4 x 6.5 x 2 inches (120 x 174 x 38 mm) and includes a 3.5-inch backlit touchscreen LCD supporting 65K colors. It weighs in at 12 ounces, for optimal beverage balancing properties. Operating range is 33 feet (10 meters).
I/O ports include a USB port and a memory stick slot. The device is powered by a non-removable Ni-MH battery.
Software side
The Navitus uses a 2.4.18 Linux kernel based on MontaVista Linux, which has supported the i.MX1 processor since July of 2003. Sony lists bash, busybox, and tinylogin among the source packages, and the kernel appears to include support for the processor's serial interface, suggesting that it may be possible to somehow bring up a shell on the remote control. The kernel also appears to support NFS, possibly for use with a filesystem on a remote development host. These features may have been disabled in the kernel that is included in the production version, however.
The Navitus uses mtools to interface with the memory stick, and appears capable of initializing memory sticks using the msmkdosfs package.
In addition to standard ASCII (iso8859-1)and US English (codepage 437), the Navitus supports Multilingual Latin 1 (NLS codepage 850), suggesting Sony will market the device in Europe.
