When my parents flew from Nanchang (my hometown) to Beijing two weeks ago for their visas, they saw 5 or 6 American couples each of whom just adopted a Chinese child from Nanchang. It seems more and more American couples are adopting Chinese children, mostly girls. In "sex and the city", Charlotte was thinking to adopt a Chinese girl. I think most Americans, as Charlotte, have the impression that girls are not welcome in China. I have to admit that it is still true in China. :(

While what you are saying is true, it is well known to Americans and getting irrelavent. What makes China so attractive to these adopting parents over other countries is that the adoption system in China is fairly efficient. The Chinese in charge of this are also very professional and contrary to what most overseas Chinese people think, the small amount of money contributed by the adopting parents to the orphanages has been put to good use--back to the orphanages to improve the living conditions of the children. I am glad it worked out well for both the adopting Americans and the Chinese children.
